"There's a song in my head, going 'round and 'round..." Martha + the Muffins

Not a day goes by that I don't have with a tune in my head. It usually comes when I'm in the shower. Sometimes it's obscure. More often than not, it's some song I heard on the radio, or while grabbing groceries. Here's a diary of the songs that I had in my head this past week.

FYI: The links lead to the lyrics, in case you're interested. While searching for the lyrics online, I found this hilarious site - amiright.com - that accepts submissions for misheard words in songs. Great for a good giggle.

Monday: "Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney & Wings
Context: It's the day after April Fool's and I'm listening to CBC Radio One. They are discussing with Michael Enright (host of This Morning) the crazy April Fool's joke they did which involved interviewing Jimmy Carter about the softwood lumber debate. It was actually an actor playing Jimmy Carter, but I'm guessing he was pretty good, since a Globe and Mail reporter wrote a story based on some of the things he said in the CBC interview. This appeared in the Globe the next day. Guy shoulda checked his facts, before going to print...

Tuesday: "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the musical Annie
Context: Not entirely sure with this one. I'm guessing that it relates to working with crazy clients or something.

Wednesday: "Blow at High Dough" by The Tragically Hip
Context:
This song is the intro song to the CBC television program "Made in Canada". This show often mirrors my life, but has the added feature that it makes me laugh about it. I often wonder if people really understand the subscript of this show.

Thursday: "Wasn't me" by Shaggy
Context: Again, the context is not entirely clear on this one. I know that I don't own this song. In fact, I don't even know any of the lyrics, other than the chorus. Seems it's getting a lot of airplay and probably has subliminally entered my head.

Friday: "West End Girl" by The Pet Shop Boys
Context: Reading the lyrics on this one kinda made me shutter. I use to love The Pet Shop Boys many, many moons ago. They represented the super-cool dance grooves that I loved to shake my bootie to.

Saturday: "Don't Speak" by No Doubt
Context: I saw the video for this the day before. I was in a zoned out, hooray-it's-Saturday-and-I-lived-through-the-week mood. Muchmusic often replays the last twelve hours or something of programming, so the video was on and I stood dazed and watched the whole thing. Then I snapped out of it and fed the cat.

Sunday: "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees
Context: It's a wickedly warm day. First warm day in forever, it seems. The whole day I had this song in my head. Put a goofy smile on my face and made me not care about much of anything.

Catherine Thomson can often be heard humming a tune she doesn't know the words to in Toronto, Ontario.

just remember...

downwithup.com is a place for viewing, venting, wallowing, and whining. Got the oh-my-gawd-it's-a-blank-page-with-an-empty-title-tag-shake-down blues? Look now and forever hold the truth. No wait... speak now and maybe you'll get somewhere. Or is it, "run for cover!" Whatever happens, we're all in it together.

We say, downwithup!

Oscar Wilde once said, "life is too important to be taken seriously."

Great idea. Now, go enjoy yourselves!
